Chinese Cresteds
A little bragging...

On May 21st, 2006, Pippin finished his International Champion title.  Not only did he perform well in the ring, he was absolutely excited to get in there and show off.  We are so proud of him!!

On May 27th, Luna showed in her first AKC show.  Not only did she win her class, she went on to win against all of the female Cresteds of all ages that were there.  Luna took Winner's!  Not a bad way to start her show career, we are so proud of her!

Chinese Cresteds are amazing little dogs.  A Chinese Crested makes a wonderful companion and good watch dog.  These dogs are devoted and affectionate.  The hairless variety are warm and smooth to the touch, while the 'powderpuff' variety are soft and will require brushing.  The average Chinese Crested will weigh between 7-14 pounds.  Both varieties are well tolerated by people with allergies.

Health Concerns for Cresteds:

Hairless Cresteds love to sunbathe in the summer, and require sunscreen to protect them.  A light, non-greasy formula works just fine. Wool and lanolin should be avoided as they are a source for potential allergies.  Regular bathing and teeth brushing can help minimize problems with skin and teeth.  Powderpuffs have a regular set of teeth and can be cared for just like ay other dog.  Hairless cresties have been known to have poor dentition.  This means that sometimes not all of the teeth come in, or maybe they are a little out of place.  The canine teeth are called "ancient tusks" because they angle diffently from other dogs.  Because of their potential for dental prblems, you will want to tc clean the teeth 3-5 times a week with a tooth cleansing cloth or mild toothpaste and small toothbrush  As a breeder, it is important for the buyer to understand the unique qualities of each dog and how to care for your dog so that you may have a long and healthy life together. Some hairless dogs will often get little incomplete hairs in the skin that look similar to blackheads.  However, they are not and a nice bath with a washcloth rubbed on the areas of concern can really help the appearance.  In the winter, the hairless Crested needs a sweater to stay warm.  I only dress my hairless in cotton or acrylic, never wool or polyester due to alergy potential.
As a breed, Chinese Cresteds are generally hardy and healthy and a ton of fun.  They are very intelligent and love to play throughout their lives, and they also love to curl up in bed with you, under the covers.
